Surviving the Storm

What a week for many! It's been a long and challenging week for many up North in NY, NJ, etc.  Folks accessing the damages that SANDY left behind! For many a lot is gone. Some lost many material things, some lost loved ones. It's all so heart breaking!

When I was 6 years old, I was living in Charleston, SC...when Hurricane Hugo came through...and that Hurricane took away everything that was left in our home. We stayed at my Grandpa's house during the Hurricane for shelter. I remember looking through the window at the storm...well trying to look through the window - it was covered up with plastic, etc. We all went outside and looked up at the sky...and ran back in the house. I remember that day. I remember after the Hurricane, we left my Grandpa's to go home...and when we got to our house. It was gone. The only thing that was there was a chair and the dog. That's it. I'll never forget that image. When we went to my Grandma's house (she wasn't married to my Grandpa and lived in a different area from my Grandpa) - there were clothing and all sorts of people's stuff all over the place. Trees and power lines were down. We had to go to the local High School to get water and food, etc. After awhile...people started selling T-shirts that said "I survived Hurricane Hugo". I remember that time. It was a hard time. The only thing we had were, what ever we had taken to my Grandpa's house.

So, we literally had to start over. Grant it...we didn't have much to begin with but still - we had things, a house, etc. When you have nothing and to lose the lil that you did have - can be very heartbreaking and discouraging. That lil bit of stuff you have, is a lot to you! When you have a lot of things, that you have worked so hard to get...especially expensive things. It's heartbreaking and discouraging as well. No matter what you have, when you lose - you are sad and get discouraged. It's normal. It's understandable.

BUT we can't stay that way. We have to know that there is a GOD and He will get you back on your feet again! This time, it may be better than before. You just have to get up and keep your mind on all the Positive! Even though all you see is negative. Think POSITIVE, make moves, stay focused and things will get better! It will take time to recover after any type of loss but it is possible!

Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” Matthew 19:26

I am very THANKFUL that so far, all of my friends and family - that I have heard back from are doing well. They may have some setbacks BUT they are ALIVE and that's what TRULY matters! THANKFUL!

Cast your cares on the LORD and he will sustain you;
                                                                       he will never let the righteous fall. Psalm 55:22

May GOD Bless you and direct your footsteps, as you recover! You all are in my PRAYERS!
